Set Rhythm, Not Just Goals

Jan 19, 2026

In the first few weeks of a new year, it’s easy to get swept up in goal-setting fever.

We buy the planners.
We write the lists.
We declare big intentions with bold energy.

And while all of that is powerful… it can also be fleeting.

If you’ve ever set a resolution on January 1st and forgotten about it by February, you’re not alone. In fact, studies show that over 80% of New Year’s goals fail before spring.

Why?

Because while goals give us direction, they don’t give us momentum.
And momentum is what carries us through the inevitable ups and downs of life.

That’s why I believe in this core principle:

Don’t just set goals. Set rhythms.

Rhythm is about creating a sustainable cadence for how you want to live, lead, and show up each day.

Instead of focusing solely on the outcome (“I want to lose 20 pounds”), we anchor into the practice (“I move my body daily and fuel it with intention”).

Instead of obsessing over metrics (“I need to earn six figures”), we commit to showing up consistently (“I make five outreach calls each day, no matter what”).

Rhythm builds reliability.
Rhythm builds identity.
Rhythm builds trust in yourself.

Here’s a personal example:

Years ago, I set a goal to write my first book.
For weeks, I struggled. I'd open the document, write a few lines, delete them, and walk away frustrated.

Then I made a shift — I set a rhythm.

Every morning at 9:00 am, I wrote for 60 minutes. No judgment. No editing. Just rhythm.

And guess what?

The book got done.

Not because I was chasing the goal every day — but because I was living in the rhythm that made the goal inevitable.

As you step into this new year, ask yourself:

  • What daily, weekly, or monthly rhythms would support the goals I’ve set?
  • What does my “aligned rhythm” look and feel like?
  • Where can I simplify, so rhythm becomes effortless?

You might start with something small:

  • A 10-minute morning stillness practice.
  • A weekly planning session on Sundays.
  • A daily gratitude journal before bed.

Remember: Big results don’t come from big actions once — they come from small actions repeated consistently.

So if your January goals are already starting to feel distant or overwhelming, come back to rhythm.

Get back in sync.

And most importantly…

Keep moving.

Because the rhythm you set today will carry you through every season to come.
