There is a moment that quietly holds more power than we often realize.
It is the moment before the beginning.
The moment where an idea tugs at you…
A decision waits to be made…
A vision asks for your courage.
And yet — many people never cross that threshold.
Why?
Because they are waiting to feel ready.
But here is a truth I have witnessed thousands of times — in leadership, in business, and on the martial arts mat:
Readiness is not a prerequisite for action.
It is the result of it.
The Illusion of Readiness
We tell ourselves a story:
"Once I feel more confident… I’ll start."
"Once I have more clarity… I’ll move."
"Once the timing is perfect… I’ll act."
But perfection is a moving target.
And waiting for it often becomes the very thing that keeps us stuck.
The highest-performing leaders understand something most people don’t:
👉 Progress belongs to those willing to begin before certainty arrives.
What the Board Teaches
During my Board Breaking Experiences, I watch this transformation unfold again and again.
Participants step toward the board with hesitation written across their faces. Their minds race with doubt.
"What if I can’t?"
Yet something remarkable happens when they choose to move forward anyway.
They focus.
They breathe.
They commit.
And when their hand moves through the board — something deeper breaks as well:
The belief that they couldn’t.
The breakthrough was never just physical. It was psychological.
Because in that moment, they stopped waiting to feel ready… and discovered they already were capable.
Action Creates Clarity
One of the greatest misconceptions about leadership is that clarity must come first.
In reality, clarity is often revealed through motion.
Think about the times in your life when you gained the most confidence.
Was it while you were thinking?
Or while you were doing?
Movement generates feedback.
Feedback generates learning.
Learning generates confidence.
This is how momentum is born.
Not from dramatic leaps — but from courageous first steps.
Identity Shifts When You Move
There is another reason starting matters so much.
Action changes how you see yourself.
When you hesitate, you reinforce the identity of someone who waits.
When you act, you step into the identity of someone who leads.
And leadership, at its core, is less about authority…
…and more about self-trust.
Every bold step whispers to your brain:
"See? You can do hard things."
Over time, those whispers become belief.
Where Are You Waiting?
Pause for a moment and ask yourself:
Your next breakthrough may not require more preparation.
It may simply require permission.
Permission to begin imperfectly.
Permission to learn as you go.
Permission to trust that you will figure it out along the way.
Because you will.
Momentum Loves Courage
Here is the beautiful thing about momentum:
Once it starts, it begins to carry you.
Energy rises.
Fear softens.
Possibility expands.
But momentum has one requirement:
You must move first.
Not flawlessly.
Not fearlessly.
Just forward.
So this week, I invite you to make a powerful decision:
Stop waiting.
Start leading.
Choose one area of your life or leadership where hesitation has been holding you back — and take the first step.
Send the email.
Make the call.
Share the idea.
Launch the project.
Start before you feel ready.
Because readiness is not what creates breakthroughs.
Courage is.
And remember:
You don’t need to see the entire path — just the next step.
Take it.
Your future is already meeting you there.
